Course Overview
This course was developed in conjunction with the NCMA and Pre-School Learning Alliance to meet the requirements of the National Standards. The course offers a comprehensive guide to administering first aid to babies and children. Ouch trainers use child and baby manikins to simulate realistic first aid scenarios.
Who is it for?
This course is suitable for those responsible for the care of young children, particularly childminders and ‘early years’ workers.

- Accident reporting and the first aid box
- Planning for and dealing with emergencies
- Foreign bodies, eyes, ears etc
- Eye injuries
- Bites and stings
- Effects of heat and cold
- Febrile convulsions
- Poisoning

- Resuscitation
- Wounds, bleeding, shock
- Anaphylactic shock
- Incidents involving electricity
- Burns and Scalds
- Choking
- Fractures
- Head, neck and back injuries

Specific medical conditions can also be covered, including sickle cell, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, meningitis and the management of sudden serious illnesses.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course the delegates will have a thorough knowledge of first aid topics related to child-care.
Assessment
Continuous assessment by the trainer and each delegate will receive a certificate. The certificates are valid for a period of three years.
Course Duration
Minimum of 12 hours (normally run over 2 days). This course can be run in-house for up to 12 delegates.
