CIEH Principles of COSHH
Course Overview
This course introduces students to the hazards associated
with substances, the risks and controls available, and what
to expect from a COSHH assessment. It can help to supplement
COSHH safety policies and risk assessments as carried out by
Ouch Consultancy. The course can be certified by Ouch or by
the CIEH, following successful completion of a multiple-choice
exam.
Who is it for?
It is suitable for those encountering hazardous substances
in the workplace. While this course can be taken as a stand-alone
qualification and there are no specific entry requirements,
it is strongly recommended that delegates should already have
a basic understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
Topics covered:
- Definition and types of substances hazardous to health
in the workplace.
- Health effects of hazardous substances and their causes.
- COSHH risk assessments
- Control measures
- Safety data sheets
- Use of personal protective equipment
- Responsibilities imposed by the Control of Substances
Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002.
- Emergency procedures
- Sample risk assessments and procedures
Course Objectives
Successful completion will prepare delegates to look carefully
at their own work activities and contribute to the safer use
of hazardous substances in co-operation with their managers
and supervisors. Delegates will also be able to demonstrate
a general understanding of the value and purpose of conducting
a COSHH assessment.
Assessment
If CIEH certification is required the course is assessed by
a multiple-choice exam and successful candidates will receive
a nationally recognised CIEH certificate. An Ouch attendance
certificate will be issued to delegates not undertaking the
CIEH exam or for those who are unsuccessful in the exam.
