CIEH Level 2 Award in Health & Safety in Health and Social Care
In the UK over a million people are employed as carers and millions more provide informal care and support for relatives and friends. The Department of Health has drawn up a code of practice acknowledging that everyone involved in care provision needs training to tackle the risk of Health Care Acquired Infection (HCAI).
Who is it for?
All employees in the health and social care sector, including those in the private and voluntary healthcare sectors, to encourage the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.

Course Objectives
Successful completion of the training programme and assessment will enable candidates to understand the:
- Terminology used in good hygiene practice
- Relationship of hazard and risk in prioritising action
- Relevant legislation relating to hygiene practice
- Concepts of hygiene hazards and infection control
- Importance of good personal hygiene
- Need for high standards of cleanliness to help prevent infection
Assessment
There is a multiple-choice examination and successful candidates will receive a nationally recognised CIEH certificate. Ouch attendance certificates will be issued to delegates not taking the exam or for those who are unsuccessful. Accreditation for this course is currently being sought from the QCF.
Course Duration
Minimum of 3 hours - this course can be run in-house for up to 12 delegates.
